The author of this article, Virus Is Twice as Deadly for Black and Latino People Than Whites in N.Y.C., explains that COVID is hurting certain communities more than others. The article points out that existing racial inequalities have lead to differential access to healthcare, leaving some to face COVID with untreated pre-existing conditions. Furthermore, many who are “front line” workers (i.e. they are in essential positions) belong to racial minority groups. These individuals are continuing to go to work and therefore increasing their exposure to ill people and contaminated objects resulting in an increased probability of contracting COVID.

Of course, it is important to note that there is no link between race (social construct) and genetic disposition to disease.
