This is the blog for GW students taking Human Evolutionary Genetics. This site is for posting interesting tidbits on: the patterns and processes of human genetic variation;human origins and migration; molecular adaptations to environment, lifestyle and disease; ancient and forensic DNA analyses; and genealogical reconstructions.

Protecting Confidentiality in Private Genomics

This article focused on ethical issues in genomics. This include issues such as protecting individual data but remaining open to investigators who will use this data in future. They have been able to do this by, splitting the genomic data in to two parts whose information data Is low enough not to put at stake confidentiality and integrity. The whole idea is that one piece of the split data will never deliver enough information to unveil a genomic sequence stored in the bank. The second method they are using is managing of the banks which is organized along a block chain scheme that would permit free access and permanent control on transfer of information between the bank and the investigator. We know issues with private genomics involves human data, and this is a good point to look at in safeguarding both confidentiality and integrity.
