This is the blog for GW students taking Human Evolutionary Genetics. This site is for posting interesting tidbits on: the patterns and processes of human genetic variation;human origins and migration; molecular adaptations to environment, lifestyle and disease; ancient and forensic DNA analyses; and genealogical reconstructions.

The MinION DNA sequencer

Handheld Device Sequences Human Genome

This portable handheld device has the potential to
revolutionize how we use genome sequencing. It used to be that it took millions of dollars and several years to sequence a genome, but Professor Nicholas Loman from University of Birmingham reportedly used it to track the spread of the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. Could this be the best new development in science?
